Senior Software Engineer

Tilt (check us out here) is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Leave Experience team and own the delivery and evolution of AI-powered capabilities that will shape the future of how Tilt delivers value. In this role, you will lead the design and delivery of complex, high-impact features, integrate AI/ML solutions to improve customer and internal experiences, and mentor teammates to raise the bar across engineering. This position is a full-time role reporting to our Engineering Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the delivery of complex, high-impact features and projects from design through production deployment, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and performance
Architect and implement AI/ML-driven platform capabilities such as retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), intelligent automation, and natural language processing that enhance our product and can be reused across multiple features
Partner with Product, Design, and Data teams to identify AI opportunities, scope experiments, and ship MVPs quickly, using data to drive iteration and refinement
  • Design and implement safe and responsible AI workflows, including bias mitigation, human-in-the-loop review processes, and compliance guardrails for sensitive HR and legal contexts
  • Own and evolve AI-enabled product components, designing scalable architectures, orchestration pipelines (e.g., MCP-style tool use), and data integration patterns that set the technical direction for your domain
  • Improve system reliability and maintainability by proactively addressing technical debt and driving automation in development and operational workflows
  • Build and maintain AI service observability from latency monitoring to model quality evaluation ensuring production AI features are reliable, explainable, and measurable
  • Actively engage in product and engineering discussions, bringing AI-informed insights to influence roadmap and prioritization
  • Write maintainable, well-documented code and conduct high-quality code reviews that focus on knowledge sharing, performance, and security
  • Mentor and coach engineers across the team, fostering growth in AI literacy, technical decision-making, and architectural thinking
  • Identify and communicate risks, architectural concerns, and tradeoffs early, collaborating with leadership to implement solutions
  • Participate in our on-call rotation to help manage engineering escalations and ensure system reliability

You're a great fit if:

  • You have led end-to-end delivery of complex features in production SaaS environments, including AI/ML integrations that shipped to real customers from model/API selection to orchestration, deployment, and monitoring
  • You can architect systems that integrate AI responsibly, from model selection and API integration to deployment and monitoring
  • You are fluent in retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines, multi-step reasoning/orchestration frameworks, and integrating enterprise data sources (e.g., Snowflake, Sigma) with hosted model services (e.g., AWS Bedrock).
  • You work autonomously, making thoughtful tradeoffs between speed and quality, and deliver projects on time with minimal oversight
  • You thrive in ambiguous environments, proactively identifying opportunities for technical and AI-driven innovation
  • You have strong mentorship skills and take pride in raising the technical bar for the team
  • You can evaluate, integrate, and extend third-party AI tools as well as work with in-house ML models, balancing build-vs-buy decisions, to accelerate delivery without sacrificing quality or control
  • You bring high levels of empathy to your work, mentoring and collaborating with teammates thoughtfully while connecting deeply with Tilt’s mission
  • You are fearlessly flexible and curious and you thrive in an environment where we don’t have all the answers
  • You have experience working in startups and/or B2B SaaS environments
