Team: Engineering

Tilt (check us out here) is looking for an Engineering Manager to join our team and help us scale our business. In this role you will lead, grow, and develop a team of 5-8 Software Engineers and collaborate closely with the product team, designers, and tech lead to deliver quality products at speed. This position is a full-time role reporting to the VP of Engineering.

We’re looking for an Engineering Manager who thrives at the intersection of technical execution and partner collaboration. This role leads our Integrations team — the crew behind the robust, scalable connections that power Tilt’s ecosystem. You should get excited about working closely with external partners, thinking deeply about APIs, and building thoughtful, reliable experiences that make life easier for our customers. If you're energized by enabling seamless integrations, navigating external constraints with grace, and shaping the connective tissue between platforms, this role was built for you.

Below is a description of the role and responsibilities, including the things you will be held accountable for and the virtues, behaviors and competencies that are expected for this role.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Drive aligned delivery by translating company and product goals into clear team-level initiatives, ensuring progress against short-term objectives without losing sight of long-term impact
  • .Foster a high-performing, healthy team by promoting sustainable workloads, conducting effective 1:1s, and actively coaching individuals through feedback, career development, and growth opportunities.
  • Create clarity and focus by identifying and championing high-value work, facilitating effective backlog prioritization, and communicating progress through tools like Jira, Confluence, etc.
  • Enable autonomy with accountability by clearly delegating responsibilities, setting quality standards, and reinforcing shared ownership of outcomes.
  • Promote engineering excellence by maintaining high standards for technical design, code quality, and architectural alignment, and ensuring consistent participation in discovery, design, and code reviews.
  • Collaborate fearlessly across functions with Product, Design, and other teams to improve alignment, reduce handoff friction, and deliver meaningful outcomes for our internal and external customers.
  • Balance product delivery with tech investment by managing trade-offs between features, tech debt, and innovation — supporting long-term scalability without sacrificing near-term velocity.
  • Champion continuous learning by staying current on tech trends and encouraging team members to explore new approaches, tools, and patterns that benefit both their craft and our customers.
  • Model Tilt virtues by leading with empathy, embracing curiosity, adapting quickly, and putting people and customers first in everything you do.

Things you will be held accountable for:

  • Team health and engagement: Foster a psychologically safe, inclusive, and high-trust environment, reflected in consistently positive team morale and sustainable workloads.
  • Aligned, impactful delivery: Ensure your team delivers meaningful, customer-centric solutions that map to company goals — on time and with high quality.
  • Clear, data-informed communication: Provide accurate delivery estimates, communicate risks early, and contribute to business planning by tracking and refining estimation accuracy.
  • Continuous growth and development: Support your team’s evolution through intentional coaching, career conversations, and growth opportunities that lead to increased autonomy and confidence.
  • Engineering excellence and consistency: Champion high technical standards through active participation in design and code reviews, and ensure your team adheres to architectural guidelines and best practices.
  • Thoughtful prioritization and tradeoffs: Make strategic decisions that balance feature work, technical debt, and innovation — maintaining team velocity while setting up for long-term scalability.
  • Effective cross-functional collaboration: Build strong, trusting relationships with Product, Design, and Go-to-Market teams to reduce friction, improve outcomes, and ensure alignment.
  • Privacy and security stewardship: Champion privacy-by-design principles and ensure your team consistently follows secure coding and data protection practices, helping Tilt maintain trust and meet compliance standards.
  • Living Tilt’s values: Consistently demonstrate Tilt’s virtues — put health and family first, work autonomously and collaboratively, stay curious, love our customers, and be fearlessly flexible in the face of ambiguity.
